Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

Price's death comes just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
