Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official said the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
