Britain Ready to Use Seized Russia's Holdings to Support the Ukrainian Defense

The British government is prepared to move forward with utilizing the total value of seized Russia's assets to bolster the Ukrainian defense operations, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the UK, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to engage in negotiations.

They further noted that the move would be implemented in close cooperation with the America.

UK sanctions have blocked more than £25bn of Russia's assets since the Russian government initiated its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, up to this point, resources allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had exclusively been drawn from earnings and returns accrued on them.

Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their aim to drive progress toward using the total worth of the frozen Russia's state holdings to halt hostilities.

He stated that additional restrictions soon would increase the strain on Russia.

This statement comes after European officials convened in the Danish capital previously to discuss employing immobilized Russia's funds for a €140 billion financial aid to Ukraine.

Last month, American leader Donald Trump urged G7 allies to seize or otherwise use seized Russia's funds, based on media sources.

The worth of immobilized Russian funds in the Europe is estimated to be nearly €211bn.

The Russian government carried out extensive bombardments throughout Ukraine on recently, resulting in blackouts in significant regions of the capital city, the city, and several other zones.

A pair of individuals were fatally injured and a minimum of 20 people were wounded in the attack, authorities in Ukraine said.

In a post on an online platform after the incident, Zelensky stated that the premeditated assault targeted public and utility structures.

"What's needed is not just talk but decisive action - from the America, the European Union, and the seven nations - in providing air defence systems and implementing penalties," he emphasized.

"Each restrictive measure diminishes Russia's war machine," Zelensky wrote, in a different message.

Additionally that day, Zelensky stated to the press he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the PURL program, under which alliance members buy arms from the US to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While praising the United Kingdom's firm backing for the Ukrainian government, he said it should send a clear signal that it would participate in the program, as well as enforce additional restrictions on Moscow.
