More than 50 Child Asylum Seekers Still Missing After Vanishing from State Care in UK

Over 50 unaccompanied minor migrants who disappeared not long after arriving the UK and while being looked after by government agencies are yet to be found, based on information obtained.

A significant number of the missing children came in dinghies or concealed in the cargo areas of vehicles and are presumed to have been seized by traffickers. A specific county is commonly the place where they first land.

Government Figures Indicates Disturbing Numbers

Freedom of information records has documented 345 children vanishing from their area, with 56 of those yet to be located.

From 2021 and 2023, when two hotels for children were run along with hotels in other areas, 132 children disappeared from those two hotels. Among them, 108 were eventually recovered but 24 are still missing.

Between 2020 and August 2025, 213 children disappeared from reception centres for these minors, with 182 found and 32 yet to be accounted for.

Origin Statistics of Missing Children

In the two scenarios, minors from Albania were the most numerous nationality to vanish, accounting for a full half the aggregate from the temporary accommodations, 68, and in excess of one-fourth from the reception centres, 65.

The second and third largest ethnic groups to have gone missing from the two settings are Afghan nationals then Iranian nationals.
