New Year's Celebrants Urged to Wrap Up Warm with Snow Forecast Across the UK

Meteorologists have indicated a frosty beginning to the new year, with wintry precipitation expected throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants are advised to bundle up as near-freezing temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.

Celebratory Events Continue In Spite of Warnings

Edinburgh's famous Hogmanay events are planned to proceed, a contrast to last year's cancellation. This proceeds amid advisories for snow across northern Scotland.

Temperatures Forecast to Drop Even More

Approximately 10cm of snow is forecast to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.

Health Warnings Issued

Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to continue until noon on 5 January, with temperatures expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.

Officials said this signified the weather could to cause significant impacts across health and social care services. This includes a expected uptick in the number of deaths among the elderly or unwell or those aged 65 or over.
