NY Introduces Online Platform for Citizens to Submit ICE Images After Detentions of Four US Citizens

New York state AG has launched a recent reporting form asking locals to provide images and footage of federal immigration enforcement throughout the state. This action follows a shortly after a major immigration operation rattled Manhattan's Chinatown, sparking widespread demonstrations.

American Citizens Detained During ICE Operation

A US congressman revealed during a midweek briefing that four US citizens were arrested and kept for "nearly 24 hours" following Tuesday's raid. Protests broke out in NYC on consecutive evenings.

"Every New Yorker deserves to live without fear," the attorney general stated in a statement.

"Anyone who observed and captured federal operations recently, I encourage you to provide that material with the authorities. We are dedicated to examining these reports and determining any legal breaches."

Prior to sending, individuals must tick a option that states that "the office may use any materials, images, or footage in a official report, including in a lawsuit or official statement."

The Chinatown raid, which witnesses say involved dozens of ICE personnel, happened in a popular area of Manhattan where counterfeit products and additional items are commonly traded in large quantities – frequently to visitors.

Videos of the operation depict numerous masked and armed personnel restraining and arresting a person, and shoving away bystanders. Throngs of locals followed the officers along the roads. An armored truck was also seen traveling down the Manhattan avenues.

Political Response

At a news conference featuring the immigrant advocacy group, congressman Dan Goldman, a Democrat, announced that four American citizens were taken by federal agents for nearly 24 hours and that there were "no circumstances where US citizens should be arrested for without cause." He noted the citizens were freed on Wednesday with no accusations made.

"There's a clear purpose here. It is not about removing offenders," the congressman stated. "This represents a armed campaign to incite tension. It is purely a pretext to provoke conflict for federal officials to bring in the military to stop conflict that they themselves caused."

Anger over the immigration operation quickly spread – all three mayoral candidates denounced the incident, along with NY's governor.

"Yet again, the federal government opts for authoritarian theatrics that instill panic, not safety. It must stop," a political candidate stated.

New York City immigrant rights groups voiced concern also.

"ICE descended on Chinatown in NYC with tactical trucks, masked agents and riot gear to focus on local sellers trying to make a living. This raid had nothing to do with community security and was entirely about intimidating residents and neighborhoods," remarked the leader of a rights organization.
