Shock as Beloved South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.

A popular South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Officials stated the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.

The purpose of the attack is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, according to authorities.

Details of the Attack

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a location in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the site overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, as per local media.

"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," authorities said.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what appeared to be a security uniform opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries across the street.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the crime scene.

Appeal for Witnesses

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and investigators have been tracking them to determine their destination," added an official.

Outpouring of Grief

His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the family was struggling to process his death.

"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"We know he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were willing to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."

She appealed to the citizens to refrain from sharing explicit content from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's children.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that premiered on a popular local TV network.

In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including private security, providing elite guarding services and securing high-profile events across South Africa.

He was also reportedly involved in building administration and was involved in building evictions.

His killing has shocked the country and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the authorities and political parties.

A cabinet official said he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.

"He expressed his views fearlessly and impartially. He even criticized me and my policies as a public official. He was a shining model of who we should be," the minister added.

A public representative commented the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".

A broadcasting director said that "DJ Warras was not merely a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a true devotee of sound and a warm soul who brought happiness and vitality to every moment on screen. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."

In a statement, the network he worked for said Stock was known for his charisma, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his influence "will be remembered".
