The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
