The skiing legend Optimistic of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of securing a podium spot for the fourth instance in five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a significant orthopedic procedure.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
