Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not True Real Supporters'

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals can't be real Tottenham fans" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of goals in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home loss of the year.

However the main topic of discussion was Fulham's second score when Vicario lost possession well beyond his area.

The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a long ball and took the ball towards the sideline.

However, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italy international spun and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.

Seconds afterwards when the ball went to the keeper again, some Tottenham fans jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.

A particular of those jeering sessions truly irritated the manager.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and jeered after, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"[They] can't be true Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with each other moving ahead."

Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second period showing.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the next score was "totally avoidable".

"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the role the keeper is playing. He is a great team player, he's a true figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the winning score."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Italian international the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.

He said after the match that he had to take the feedback.

"That score was a mistake of my own, I take responsibility for that," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said being booed "comes with football".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to stay increasingly composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in composure and calmness to overturn results. Today is a bad defeat and it's tough to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'

Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an simple score for Harry Wilson to score.

Actually it was the next longest-range top division score of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also occurred on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open goal to target.

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

While Vicario's error dominated headlines, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to extend their home struggles.

This was their tenth home loss of the year in the Premier League, a joint team statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.

The side still have home games against the manager's former club the Bees and title holders Liverpool to play before the end of the season.

Only one of those wins have occurred since the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," stated the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you too – the first was a deflected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.

"This result leaves us in a position where we have lost an additional match. Every game has a unique narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.
